I love to educate and teach about bacterial meningitis to audiences of all types and ages, what it means to live without a working spleen, and overcoming physical, cognitive and emotional challenges and about living a full life as a meningitis/sepsis survivor. Since 2009, I've been an active VACCINE ADVOCATE, member Mid-American Immunization Coalition, educating community groups and students of all ages, health departments, healthcare providers about bacterial meningitis, the vaccines which prevent it, and the CDC and ACIP age-specific recommendations for vaccination, and high risk patient populations (like myself). From 2011-2015 I served as a nationwide vaccine advocate and motivator for a prominent vaccine manufacturer.
How am I different than other meningitis speaker/advocates? My 25 yrs of working in healthcare as an occupational therapist and contracting bacterial meningitis as an asplenic adult and mother, at age 37, provides me with a platform like no other advocate. Medical terminology, a unique perspective from a mother's survivor heart, and my love to educate asplenia set my advocacy apart from the crowd, Not one health care provider in 10 years ever mentioned the word VACCINE. My job is to change that.
Programs are offered in the following formats: Keynotes Breakout Sessions Trainings. Panel Guest for Meningitis or Vaccine Advocacy.
